Communicating Heart-to-Heart

By Barbara Stacey · 2 March 2025 · 3 min read

As parents, we know how much our words matter, especially to our children. But sometimes, in the rush of daily life, we forget. We get caught up in our own feelings, our frustrations, and forget that our child is a person with their own unique experiences and emotions. Just like us, they can feel hurt and overwhelmed.

That's why it's so important to speak from the heart. Don't be afraid to express warmth and appreciation. Tell them what you see in them, their strengths, their efforts, and their unique qualities. It's easy to focus on what needs improvement, but remember to balance that with positive reinforcement.

Of course, it's essential to guide them and address areas where they can grow, but do so with kindness and only when it's truly needed and asked for. Always consider if your input is truly helpful and delivered wisely.

In all of this, let's not forget to appreciate each other. Look at your child with loving eyes, even when things are challenging. Remember the good times, the moments of connection, and the love that binds you.

If you find it difficult to speak with warmth and love, take a moment to look inward. Look deeper, INTO YOURSELF. What are you feeling? What needs attention within yourself? Are you feeling overwhelmed, unheard, or unappreciated? Addressing your own needs will help you create a calmer, more loving space for communication.

We all need connection, kindness, and meaningful conversations. It's not just about exchanging information; it's about being present and connecting with each other.

Practical Tips for Loving Communication:

Remember, you have the power to create a positive and loving environment for your child. By focusing on appreciation, creating shared moments, and communicating from the heart, you can strengthen your bond and foster a healthy, loving relationship."
